Fast compression artifact reduction technique based on nonlinear filtering
نویسندگان
چکیده
A computationally e cient postprocessing technique to reduce compression artifacts in low-bit-rate video coding is proposed in this paper. Blocking and ringing e ects are two majors artifacts observed in block DCT-based codec, such as H.263, when coding at very low bit rates. Reduction of these artifacts can signi cantly improve the overall visual quality of decoded video. In this work, a new table-lookup method and a nonlinear ltering are proposed to remove the blocking and ringing e ects respectively. We have performed our experiments on TMN8.0 codec and H.263 anchor bitstream. It is shown by the results that the proposed approach can alleviate the compression artifacts e ciently with low computational complexity.

Artifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...

متن کاملNon-Linear Scale-Selection for Image Compression Improvement Obtained by Perceptual Distortion Criteria
The effect of linear and non-linear diffusions prior to Joint Photographic Experts Group’s (JPEG) standard baseline compression is analysed and compared. We shall show that anisotropic diffusion acts as an adaptive filtering that extracts and preserves the important visual information, and it will be shown how it can be used as a preprocessing method for compression artefact reduction. The sele...
متن کاملComparing Objective and Subjective Quality Results for Compression Pre-processing with Non-linear Diffusion
Compression systems like JPEG include optional pre-processing with filtering to avoid compression artefacts. At higher compression ratios a stronger filtering is needed that impacts the large scale image content. To preserve the large scale information we have previously proposed to use non-linear diffusion as a pre-processing for filtering out small scale details irrelevant at a given compress...
متن کاملCompression Artifact Reduction with Adaptive Bilateral Filtering
In this paper, we present a spatially adaptive method to reduce compression artifacts observed in block discrete cosine transform (DCT) based image/video compression standards. The method is based on the bilateral filter, which is very effective in denoising images without smoothing edges. When applied to reduce compression artifacts, the parameters of the bilateral filter should be chosen care...
